Efklis-Castle City of Mystras & Hiking in Vlahochori

Cultural and Hiking Excursion – Saturday, April 18, 2026

Taking advantage of the free entrance to the Castle Town, in celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, established in 1983 by UNESCO and ICOMOS, this excursion offers a journey back in time.

The “Efklis” Kalamata Hiking and Mountaineering Club, along with nature enthusiasts, will set out to the region of Laconia to explore the Castle Town of Mystras and hike along an interesting route toward Vlachochori, combining Byzantine history with natural landscapes.

Morning stop: Outside Sparta.

Hiking details:

• Distance: approximately 8 km
• Elevation gain/loss: +/- 390 m
• Terrain: trail and forest road
• Total duration: about 4 hours, including breaks
• Difficulty level: A (1/5)

Transportation and cost:

• Departure: 8:00 a.m., in front of AB Supermarket (Psaron & Makedonias streets)
• Transport: modern air-conditioned coach
• Cost: €25 per person (children €20)
• Seat reservations are confirmed only upon ticket purchase

If a participant is unable to attend for any reason, 50% of the ticket cost will be refunded, provided the seat is not filled by another participant.

The participation fee includes:

• Transportation to and from the destination by luxury air-conditioned coach
• Driver expenses
• Tolls
• VAT (13%)
• Any additional costs required for the excursion

After the excursion, there will be free time for lunch at restaurants in Mystras or Sparta.
