Three musical theatre productions by the Alternative Stage, a performance by the GNO Ballet and a series of educational programmes, as part of the two-year memorandum of cooperation with the Municipality of Kalamata and the Faris Public Benefit Corporation.

The Greek National Opera continues its tours in Greece with a series of performances and educational programmes in Kalamata. For the entire month of November 2025, the GNO, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kalamata and the Kalamata International Dance Centre of the Public Benefit Enterprise Faris, presents on the stages of the Kalamata Dance Megaron, the dance triptych Return of the Summer with the GNO Ballet, the Alternative Stage performances Silence, The King Listens, Karagiozis Rigoletto and I Want to See the Pope, as well as a series of educational programmes. The programme "The GNO Travels to Greece" is implemented with a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to strengthen the Greek National Opera's artistic extroversion.
Following the successful participation of the GNO Ballet and the Higher Professional Dance School in the 31st Kalamata International Dance Festival, the presence of the Greek National Opera in the capital of Messenia is expanding, within the framework of the two-year memorandum of cooperation signed in July 2025 by the Artistic Director of the GNO, George Koumendakis, and the Mayor of Kalamata, Thanasis Vassilopoulos. All of the GNO performances and activities in Kalamata will take place at the Kalamata Dance Megaron.
The presence of the Greek National Opera in Kalamata will begin on November 1st with two educational programmes for children, Dad... Are We Dancing? and Musical Stories.
On November 4th, the GNO Alternative Stage presents two morning performances (at 09.30 and 11.00) of Nikos Kypourgos' musical for the whole family, Silence the King Listens, with a libretto by Thomas Moschopoulos and directed by Thodoris Ambazis, starring Haris Andrianos, Vasia Zacharopoulou and Nikos Stefanou in the leading roles and the participation of a small musical ensemble.
On November 6th, the GNO's new shadow opera, Karagiozis Rigoletto, with a musical adaptation by Lina Zachari and a text by Dimitris Dimopoulos and Alexandros Mellissinos, is presented at 09.30 and 11.00. Soloists Manos Kokkonis, Yiannis Selitsaniotis, Marilena Striftombola and the puppeteer Alexandros Melissinos will star.
On the afternoon of November 6th at 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM, Sakelaridis' operetta "I Want to See the Pope" will be presented, directed by Natasa Triantafylli, orchestrated by Michalis Papapetrou, with Dimitris Sigalos, Vangelis Maniatis, Julia Souglakou, Chrysa Maliamani, Nikola Marazioti, Marisia Papalexiou, Antonis Kyriakakis and the participation of a small musical ensemble.
On November 22nd and 23rd, the GNO Ballet will present the dance triptych Return of the Summer, with the choreographies Bolero by Konstantinos Rigos, to music by Maurice Ravel, Point of No Return by Yannis Mantafounis, to music by George Koumendakis, and Les Nuits d'été by Konstantinos Rigos, to music by Hector Berlioz.
On November 23rd, the opera Rigoletto will be presented, an educational program for infants and toddlers from one to three years old.
All performances in Kalamata are free to the public, with priority tickets available from www.ticketservices.gr, as part of the program "The GNO Travels to Greece", which is implemented with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) grant to strengthen the artistic extroversion of the Greek National Opera.
