Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-LOVE AND DEATH
Spread the word

When Napoleon threatens to invade Tsarist Russia, the cowardly Boris Grusenko is forced to join the army to save his country. He even manages to capture a group of enemy officers, but the French Army is too strong, and Napoleon arrives in Moscow soon after.
Boris and Sonya (Diane Keaton), his lover, devise a plan to assassinate Napoleon, but someone else catches up with them. Unfortunately, Boris is at the scene of the crime and is arrested and sentenced to death. In prison, the atheist Boris transforms into a deeply religious person and receives a visit from an angel who promises to save him from the firing squad. The execution, however, takes place, leaving Boris disappointed, and at the moment of his death, he realises that the true essence of human existence is only love and death.
Just two years before his most famous cinematic comedy, "The Nervous Lover", Woody Allen decides to close his early creative period with an epic comic orgy. Moral dilemmas, philosophical searches and metaphysical concerns are "pulverised" by the relentless Woody Allen-like satire, which won the Silver Bear at the 25th Berlin International Film Festival in 1975.
