Talagani cheese is a traditional cheese made from goat's and sheep's milk, originating from Messinia. It is a recent product based on a family recipe. Cheese maker K. Apostolou made it for the first time in the area of Gargaliani.
Talagani cheese is consumed raw or grilled and its taste is reminiscent of Cypriot halloumi but with a softer texture and creamy taste. Due to its composition, when grilled, it retains its intense full flavor, its rich aromas and the subtle touches of mint that characterize it. What makes it stand out is that it is baked without melting. These features make it extremely versatile in cooking where it can be used in many ways.
