Artemisia Folklore Museum and Art Gallery
The Artemisia Folklore Museum and Art Gallery is located in the village of the same name, which is 24 kilometres from Kalamata and 36 kilometres from Sparta.
The museum is housed in the majestic building of the Artemisia Old School, which was built, approximately, in 1925-1930 with building materials transferred from the Castle Monastery of Mele. In fact, during World War II, the German occupying army set it on fire and blew it up in retaliation. The Artemisia School operated until 1990.
On the upper floor of the Folklore Museum, visitors can see a rich collection of agricultural tools, traditional costumes and objects of daily use, while the ground floor houses the collection of various paintings from local donors. A special impression is made by the collection of paintings with representations of all the tasks of life in the village: ploughing, harvesting, etc.
