Filmhouse/New Kalamata Club Club-HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS
Spread the word
Wayne Szalinski is a kind-hearted but unsuccessful inventor trying to perfect a bizarre shrinking machine. When the device is accidentally activated, his children and the neighbours' kids are reduced to the size of insects and are inadvertently swept away with the trash.
What follows is an extraordinary journey back home through an ordinary backyard that suddenly becomes a vast jungle. A single leaf turns into a shelter, a cookie becomes an enormous mountain, an ant may be a trusted ally, and every drop of water is a natural disaster waiting to happen.
This beloved Disney family classic blends humour, imagination, and adventure with practical visual effects that have retained their charm to this day. It is a story about teamwork, ingenuity, and the joy of seeing the world from an entirely different perspective.
The film was a major commercial success for Disney and became one of the most iconic family movies of the late 1980s, paving the way for sequels and an entire cinematic mythology surrounding the Szalinski family. It was especially praised for its groundbreaking visual effects, which earned a BAFTA Award, proving that when childhood imagination meets technical creativity, the result is unforgettable cinema that continues to captivate generations.
We warmly invite everyone to this free outdoor screening at the Park, Eucalyptus Square, presented under the auspices of the Municipality of Kalamata and FARIS as part of the Kalamata Children's Festival.
