The "Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of People with Autism of Messenia," in collaboration with the FILMHOUSE "New Kalamata Cinema Club" and with the support of the "Union of Parents' Associations of the Municipality of Kalamata" and the "Association of P.E. Teachers" Messenia, is pleased to announce the screening of the multi-award-winning film "The Reason I Jump" on Wednesday, April 02nd, 2025.
The screening will take place on April 02nd, which has been established worldwide as an information and awareness day for autism.
It is a documentary film, based on the bestseller of the same name by Naoki Higashida.
It offers a deep and immersive look at neurodiversity, presenting the everyday life of non-verbal autistic individuals worldwide.
Higashida, who wrote the book at the age of just 13, shares revealing thoughts about autism, connecting them with the personal stories of five young people living in a sensory-rich and often joyful world. Through the lives of the film's heroes, a journey unfolds that is connected to the path of a young Japanese man in an epic landscape.
Stories from Naoki's writings reflect how he perceives the world, what autism means to him and why he chooses to express himself in specific ways – the very reason that pushes him to "jump".
The film is addressed to everyone—parents, Teachers, and the public—whether they know about autism or not. It is a way to learn and overcome stereotypes.
A film that conveys a powerful message: The fact that someone who cannot speak does not mean they have nothing to say.
