"Body Music" by Thanos Daskalopoulos
Body music is the oldest and, at the same time, the most modern art form. Music you see, dance you hear! This workshop will explore how the body can function as a percussion and melodic instrument, developing rhythmic perception, coordination and connection with the group. Through the challenge of different levels of musicality in a safe, non-judgmental environment, we will immerse ourselves in connecting with what we feel musically and emotionally, with the support of a musical community.
A fun, meaningful, embodied and sensory experience through which we connect with ourselves and others, using only the voice and body movements to create music, in an interactive, inclusive and collective way of creation.
My personal approach includes assimilating techniques from Keith Terry, Stomp, Barbatuques, etc., and developing my own codes for coordinating different parts of the body. At the same time, following the principles of my "impromptu teaching" approach, I am always interested in adapting the lesson to the group, the moment and the environment in which we are.
The workshops are based on three axes:
The Perspective of Sound in Time: A methodology for the perception of rhythm based on recognising patterns and their interaction.
From Movement to Sound: The importance of the quality of movement in producing sound and the diversity in applying rhythmic and melodic patterns.
Improvisation: As a means of self-teaching and artistic coexistence. What do I do? What do others do? What's the deal?"
