Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-“Hellzapoppin”
Spread the word
On Thursday, August 3rd (at 9:30 p.m.), the movie "Hellzapoppin" will be screened by "The Filmhouse/New Cinema Club of Kalamata".
One word describes the project “Hellzapoppin”. Anarchy! Breaking the frames, interference from the technicians, stopping the narration a few times, and communicating with the audience in front of the camera, the film is an incredible delirium of madness, full of comical jokes and slapstick situations.
The famous Broadway revue in 1938 by comedians Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson that ran for 1,404 performances (a record for consecutive performances at the time) was brought to the big screen in `41. Postmodern and surreal situations, film within a film, elements way ahead of their time. It could be a Marx Brothers movie. It is, however, the film unknown to the general public, from which Jerry Lewis and Mel Brooks have been greatly influenced and for one of the best comedies of American cinema.
With a music and dance scene worthy of world reference, the pace is constantly raised in the film, and the dance figures are swift. A fantastic presentation of black entertainment at the time, against stereotypical roles never seen in any classic Hollywood film.
