The Rintomo – Koskarakas Gorge could be included among the most essential hiking gorges in Greece, as it has little to envy from its more famous relatives. With a length of more than 25 kilometres, it begins its long route directly from the high peaks of Mount Taygetos to end at the beautiful beach of Santova. In its sections, it is known by various names; the most prevalent are Rintomo in its eastern and highest part, and Koskaraka in the western part that leads to the sea.
One of the sights in the Rintomo Gorge is the stone Pigadiotiko bridge. It features two arches, one above the other, that connect the banks of the gorge. The gorge at this point is narrow, like a towering gate created by the vertical rocks, with the well-known narrowness of the wedged rock between them. Additionally, according to Pausanias, in ancient times it was known as Chireios Napi because wild boars were trapped there. A point that we will see during our hike.
Mountain and nature lovers will be amazed by the beauty of the Rintomos Gorge. The best time for crossing it is considered to be the end of spring and the beginning of summer. That is why we chose it.
