Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-THE PARADE/PARADA
Spread the word

Mirko is an activist for gay rights, and his dream is to organise the first successful PRIDE event in Belgrade, which is an almost "impossible mission". Then, a Serbian homophobic gangster appears and is forced to guard Belgrade's Pride, but no one agrees to stand by his side. He will therefore be forced to travel throughout the former Yugoslavia to create a group of individuals willing to expose themselves in a society full of inequalities and human rights violations.
PARADE, in a tragicomic way, tells the story of the ongoing battle between 2 worlds in modern post-war Serbian society. The characters' behaviours and scenes in the film are related to real events that took place at the first Belgrade Pride in 2010, which, after an attack by far-right groups, ended in bloodshed with over 100 injured. The then-Serbian president himself condemned the film. Belgrade Pride has been held regularly since 2014, but always with a significant police presence.
