Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-THE PRODUCERS
Spread the word

A failed Broadway producer and a cowardly accountant concoct the theatrical scheme of the century: to stage a play that they hope will fail so triumphantly that it will be taken down immediately after its premiere.
Oscar for original screenplay for an original, brilliant and hilarious satire of the Broadway world, with plenty of inventive gags, sharp lines and inimitable… lyrics ("Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi Party").
Mel Brooks' directorial debut, which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay (and the corresponding award from the Writers Guild of America), is a satirical comedy that has justifiably become legendary over time. Almost ironically, in 2001, it was turned into an incredibly successful Broadway musical.
It is an outrageous gallery of characters that staff the show within the film and are served by the genius casting. Exuberant Zero Mostel gives his best as Max Bialystok, a completely depraved producer who… sells his body to old ladies to finance the production of "Springtime for Hitler." Gene Wilder plays the poor accountant Leo Bloom with incredible talent, who, in his last need for warmth, immerses his face in the "caress" of a piece of… a child's blanket! Dick Shawn gives... flower power, Kenneth Marsh looks like he (really) escaped from a madhouse, Estelle "Hold me, touch me" Winwood puts you down with her unbridled appetite for… sex (!), Christopher Hewitt and Andreas Voutsinas disarmingly "shout out" the definition of masculinity and Lee Meredith is the eternal Ula ("Work!").
If you haven't seen this film on the big screen, along with many other people who want to laugh, you are missing out on one of the funniest experiences of your life.
