Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-Houseboat
Spread the word

Nothing is going well in the life of a lawyer trying to "walk around" his three unruly children alone. Everything changes when his young son discovers Cinzia, an Italian woman who agrees to serve them. In reality, she is a girl of social circles who wants to escape her father's tutelage.
With two charismatic protagonists and three children, Houseboat has all the characteristics of a Hollywood comedy without failing to wink at romance and screwball misunderstanding. It also has quite a story behind it.
Betsy Drake wrote the original script for this original comedy, and Grant was initially intended to star with her. However, Grant, having begun a relationship with Lauren during filming The Pride and the Passion (1957), arranged to take Drake's place with a rewritten script for which Drake received no credit. The relationship ended before the filming of The Pride and the Passion was completed, causing problems on the set of Houseboat.
Houseboat was nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Original Song.
