In Barcelona in 1978, Manolo Vital, a bus driver with a deep social conscience and particular persistence, will strive to convince the public transport operator and the municipality to extend the route of bus 47 to the degraded settlement of Torre Barro, located outside the city limits. With a heroic stance against social injustice and inequality, he will become a symbol of dignity and will prove that there are no dangerous routes, but hazardous and inhumane policies.
Spanish director Marcel Barena returns to his homeland and is once again inspired by a true story. Without easy melodramas, with non-professional actors as protagonists (some are neighbourhood residents!), masterfully using both Spanish and Catalan, it delivers a Spanish film with a global soul. The use of archival material, as well as well-known songs, with the highlight being the Spanish anti-Franco anthem “Gallo Rojo, Gallo Negro”, makes the film a cinematic, eloquent supporter of solidarity, equality and the need for the Struggle.
The film won a total of 25 awards and 40 nominations, including five “Goya Awards”.
