Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-HARVEY
Spread the word
Kind and gentle Elwood P. Dodd has a peculiarity that sets him apart from the rest: he has a friend, Harvey, who is visible only to him. Harvey is not a human being, but a giant rabbit that follows Elwood everywhere. The two of them chat and drink for hours with the patrons of the neighbourhood bar.
Harvey, apart from Elwood, can be seen as dreamy, with an intense childishness, and as an authentic person who has not been alienated from the life that today's society dictates, which tends to label everything differently.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1950, while James Stewart's performance earned him a nomination for Best Actor. The American Film Institute has listed Harvey on two of its lists of the greatest films of all time: 35th on its list of the 100 Greatest Comedies of All Time and 7th on its list of the 10 Greatest Fantasy Films of All Time.
