The semi-mountainous village of Kaplani is located northwest of Koroni, at a distance of 13 km. The village is built at an altitude of 220 meters, in the Zarnaura mountain range. In ancient times, the village area was under the control of the ancient city of Asini, which later developed into modern Koroni. At least from the Middle Ages and the Ottoman Empire under its current name, the village is mentioned in various sources. In the Turkish language, the word "kaplani" means feline, tiger and consequently warlike, valiant.
The visitor, here, can wander along the traditional alleys with the stone houses and the old Primary School, which operated for the first time in 1898. The village churches are also remarkable, such as Agios Athanasios (built in 1907), the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the parish church of Prophet Elias. When you are in the village, be sure to visit the vaulted Mycenaean tombs at Vigla, one of the most important attractions in the area.
Every year, on the 19th and 20th of July, a festival is held in honour of Prophet Elias, with live music and plenty of food and wine. Also, in August, the annual meeting-festival is organized in the village square, under the century-old plane tree.
