S.P.O.K. “Efklis” Hikes the Famous Biliovo Cobbled path
On Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, we will hike one of the most well known and beautiful walking routes of Messenia, the famous Biliovo, the stone paved path that connects the villages of Sotirianika at 300 metres altitude and Altomira at 800 metres in the Messenian Mani. The path was recently designated as a Monument.
We have invited our friends from the Athenian association “Drapetes of Chalandri” to join us for a guided walk along the cobbled path.
The preserved section of the path is 3 kilometres long and includes 83 turns, 78 of which are 180 degree switchbacks. Construction of the Biliovo trail began in 1904 and is considered an achievement of folk architecture. Many of its turns were built on steep terrain, and skilled stone craftsmen and labourers from nearby villages worked on its construction. Based on an inscription carved into a stone, it is estimated that the Biliovo path was completed in 1928.
Meeting point: 9:00 a.m., behind the offices at the end of Aristomenous street, at the intersection of Makedonia and Psaron streets, in front of the AB supermarket.
