Kalamata Mountaineering Association-Ascending Mount Taygetos

The Kalamata Mountaineering Club invites you to a unique night ascent to the highest peak of Mount Taygetos (2,407 m / 7,897 ft) on the feast day of Prophet Elias.

Starting from the Vasiliki Forest, participants will spend the night at the Club's new mountain refuge, enjoying the unforgettable experience of an evening in the heart of the Taygetos mountain range. In the early hours of the morning, the group will begin the night hike to the Chapel of Prophet Elias at the summit, where they will attend the Divine Liturgy in the serene and spiritual atmosphere of the mountaintop.

At sunrise, participants will witness one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the Greek mountains: the distinctive triangular shadow cast by Taygetos' pyramid-shaped peak across the Messenian Gulf—a breathtaking sight that rewards every step of the climb.

Difficulty: 2+ (good physical condition required)

Hiking Time: Approximately 6 hours
