LET'S GO FOR A WALK-Dimiova Monastery
Spread the word
A "different" tour of the Dimiova Monastery and its surroundings with Sophia Germanidou-Hantzou (postdoctoral researcher in Landscape Archaeology).
- How does a place become a monument, and when does a monument become a landmark of an entire region?
- How did a geographical location become, at different times, the multinational scene of action – from Byzantine Asia Minor to Slavs, Austrians, and even the army of Kolokotronis?
- Did geology play a role in the past in integrating areas into administrative boundaries?
Beyond the typical information and descriptions, the walk to the famous Dimiova monastery and its surroundings (Riga tower, wall in Elaiochori) aims to reveal the role of the landscape in
formation of fascinating local history and archaeology, but also to activate in each of us "tools" of interpreting the built and natural environment.
Departure from Kalamata at 6 pm.
