Companions IN NATURE-Moggostos Forest
Spread the word
On November 16th, the group will hike in the fairytale, natural oak forest of Moggosto, one of the last remnants of the primaeval oak forests of the Peloponnese. The route is a circular 10 km through a Natura 2000 oak forest, with autumn colours and panoramic views of the Corinthian Gulf. The Moggosto forest is a scrub oak forest that has been included in the Natura 2000 network since 1977, hosting rare flora and fauna.
The route begins under shady oak trees, with a carpet of autumn leaves creating a magical setting. Ziria appears in the distance, while the optional detour reveals an area with vertical rocks and small caves.
As we continue, the kumaries and glystrokumaries add colour to the route. In the middle, we enjoy a unique view of the Corinthian Gulf and the mountains of Central Greece. The Moggosto forest is a natural treasure with rich biodiversity.
In addition to the ancient oaks, the group will encounter black and Aleppo pines, heathers, holly trees, junipers and kumaries. Historical reports speak of the presence of lions in the Prehistoric Era — a possible source of inspiration for the myth of the Nemean lion.
