Messenian Amateurs Theatre-Le Bourgeois gentilhomme
Spread the word
The Messinian Amateur Theatre presents “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme”, Molière’s unsurpassed comic masterpiece, in a performance full of vitality, humour and satirical edge. The new production sheds fresh light on the timeless human need for social advancement and the comical vanity that accompanies it.
At the centre is Iordanis, a wealthy but naive bourgeois who persistently tries to obtain a title of nobility. He apprentices to teachers, spends exorbitant amounts and is seduced by flattering swindlers, while his family watches with anguish the decline of reason. His daughter, in love with Leontis, becomes involved in a series of pranks and disguises to reveal the truth to Iordanis, highlighting the comic side of social hypocrisy.
The performance, faithful to the play's spirit, transports the audience to a world where laughter meets insightful social observation. With careful aesthetics, lively interpretation and high-level artistic editing, “Archontochoriatis” promises an enjoyable theatrical experience.
