"Tromaras" from the Children's Stage of the Kalamata Municipal Theatre
Spread the word
The Children's Stage of the Municipal Theatre of Kalamata presents for the winter season 2025-2026, the masterpiece of George Vizyenos, "Tromaras". The work was written in 1884 and is considered by experts to be the first short story for children in the history of modern prose.
The new theatrical production of the Municipal Theatre of Kalamata brings Vizyeno's timeless masterpiece to life on stage with sensitivity, humour and deep humanity. The performance tells the story of little Thanasis, who, through random events and misunderstandings, overcomes his fears and learns what true courage means. It masterfully sketches the soul, dreams, phobias, but also the strength hidden in the hero's weakness. The directorial approach highlights the richness of the Greek language by combining elements of storytelling, theatre and music.
Through a simple but dynamic aesthetic, the performance invites the audience on a journey of laughter, emotion and reflection.
Our hero is a child who is often ridiculed by others because he is easily scared and seems weak. Everyone teases, makes fun of, and rejects him without trying to understand his feelings. This element of the play is strongly reminiscent of school bullying, even though the play was written in the 19th century, when some people made fun of or hurt others because they were different or more sensitive.
Vizyenos, with tenderness and wisdom, shows us that fear is not a weakness but a part of human nature and that understanding and acceptance are something we must cultivate.
Thus, the play becomes a lesson in empathy and respect, against any form of mockery or exclusion.
A play for children and young people ... of all ages.
The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Kalamata Dance Megaron - Main Stage.
