"Purple (MOV)" editions are organising an event on Saturday, November 16th at 7:30 pm at the Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata on the occasion of the presentation of the book "Kazantzidis' Love Affairs."
The book examines the discourse of Stelios Kazantzidis's love songs. It profoundly analyses a poetic theme and a world of ideas, feelings, rules and practices that more generally permeate popular music and culture of the time.
A guide to the history of modern romantic love idioms analyses poetic motifs, offering an innovative perspective on interpreting various texts from popular and scholarly culture.
The songs capture essential aspects of the social experience of the time, such as the crisis of gender standards and contradictory male feelings towards modern women, the upgrading of romantic emotions and sexuality, the gendered experiences, values, pleasures and concerns of "serious" relationships and romantic marriage, and the difficult coexistence between passion, commitment and permanence.
The following will speak about the book:
- Giannis Vrailas, publisher
- Spyros Lagonikakos, fan of Kazantzidis
- Leonidas Oikonomou, social anthropologist, the author of the book
