In the centre of Navarino Bay, in the harbour of Pylos, there is the rock island of Chelonaki or Chelonisi. The island took its name from its shape, which looks like a turtle (“chelona” in Greek). On Chelonaki, there is a monument dedicated to the British people who got killed during the Naval Battle of Navarino.
Tourist boats take off from the harbour of Pylos and the Gialova pier, organising daily trips to the small island.
