Spread the word
The tribute to modern Italian Cinema CIAK!, organised in collaboration with the AIAL Cultural Association and the Italian Educational Institute of Athens, will end on Monday, October 28th, with the screening of Federico Fellini's classic film La Dolce Vita on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the legendary Marcello Mastroianni.
LA DOLCE VITA – Federico Fellini, 1960, (174'), Italy
Marcello is a tabloid magazine reporter who hopes to become a serious writer one day. Meanwhile, he plunges into the dolce vita of Rome between romantic adventures with an aristocrat who is constantly looking for new thrills, the suicide attempt of Emma - the partner who oppresses him with her jealousy - and the futile flirtation with Sylvia, the famous and explosive cinema diva shown in the mythical bath in the Trevi Fountain. They follow the false vision of the Virgin Mary concocted by two children and the meeting with a sophisticated intellectual, Steiner: Marcello admires his family, believing that he is facing the ideal model. But Steiner kills himself, having previously killed his children. Marcello's existential adventures continue unabated: the indisposition of his elderly father, who came to visit him, and the abandonment of Emma. After another night of revelry, dawn finds the tired and stunned guests observing the carcass of a "sea whale", a sloop washed up on the sand.
The film is shown in the original language with Greek subtitles
