The Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata continues its summer screenings at Doc Cafe, inviting the audience to a special evening with two Greek documentaries from the "Destination Journey" action of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.
On Monday, June 16th, at sunset, viewers will have the opportunity to watch two films that explore different aspects of the human experience, Greek history and creativity.
The films that will be screened:
1. "Love in My Grandmother's Years" Director: Zoë Stavridi-Michalopoulou | Greece, 2024, 33'
Summary: How did women of a not-so-distant generation experience love, both its romantic and physical dimensions? Zoë Stavridi-Michalopoulou, through the narratives, silences, looks, and gestures of her protagonists, seeks answers to this intriguing question. The documentary explores the materials that comprised the world of our grandmothers, revealing aspects of their lives that create the atmosphere of another era, offering a deep look into the private sphere and the social norms that shaped relationships and emotions.
The director succeeds in creating an intimate atmosphere where the narratives flow effortlessly, highlighting the complexity of love across different eras.
2. "A River Called Vakirtzis" Director: Panos A. Thomaidis | Greece, 2024, 44'
Summary: From the facades of the central cinemas of Athens in the 1950s and 1960s, which invited passersby into the dark halls, the gigantic, original and bold visual creations of Giorgos Vakirtzis today adorn public and private collections and enjoy international recognition. Panos Thomaidis' documentary takes us into the world of a pioneering visual artist, highlighting his influential presence in Greek art and cinema. The documentary is a fascinating exploration of the Greek visual arts scene, focusing on an artist who left his own distinctive mark.
