Ammos Beach
Ammos Beach is located in the northern part of Sapienza, the second largest island of the Messenian Oinousses after Schiza. It is a sandy beach, with crystal clear and heavenly waters, opposite Methoni. It is the only sandy beach on the entire island since the rest are steep and rocky.
The small beach is not organised, but there are trees that generously offer their natural shade. Access to the beach is either by private boat or tourist boat from Methoni, at a distance of 3 nautical miles. The voyage takes about 20 minutes.
In conclusion, let us mention that the waters where Ammos Beach is located have a long history. Although the area’s geography may be deceiving, they are considered part of the Ionian Sea, so around 1850, the British Empire challenged Greek sovereignty over Sapienza. However, after the concession of the Ionian Islands in 1864, the case was definitively closed.
