SPOK "Efklis" organises, with the approval of the Hellenic Cycling Federation and in collaboration with the Peloponnese Region and the Municipality of Kalamata a road race in the "Cycling for everyone" category in the endurance event, under the name "1st Spanideian Cycling Tour of Ancient Messina 2025" on Sunday, August 31st, 2025, in the area of the Mikromani Community of the Municipality of Kalamata.
The race is organised within the framework of the two-day Honorary Events dedicated to Admiral Athanasios Spanidis' memory.
For example: During World War II, Admiral Spanidis commanded the submarines "Katsonis", "Papanikolis" and "Elli", as well as the battleship "Averof", the tanker "Chios" and the destroyer "Panther".
After demobilisation, he chaired the Hellenic Atomic Energy Commission for 10 years, during which time the DEMOKRITOS Nuclear Research Centre was founded and operated.
The race is included in the Hellenic Nuclear Power Organisation's competition program and gives a score in the EOP's individual and club classifications.
CATEGORIES:
The race is a "Cycling for everyone" category, and all cyclists, Men and Women over 17 years of age, have the right to participate in a standard gender classification.
PROGRAMME:
· 09:00 a.m.: Start of the Secretariat at the Monastery of Megisti Lavra (100 m. from the central square of Mikromani).
· 09:45 a.m.: Technical Briefing by the Alytarchis
· 10:30 a.m.: Start from the Monastery of Megisti Lavra (100 m. from the central square of Mikromani).
· 1:30 p.m.: Awards in Ancient Messina (Ithomi).
ROUTE: Monastery of the Great Lavra of Mikromani (100 m. from the central square of Mikromani, Municipality of Kalamata - Pre-start) - Aris - Next to Triodos - Lampaina
(Point 0) - Arsinoe - Ancient Messina - Arcadian Gate - Neochori - Meligalas - Skala - Valyra - Lampaina - Arsinoe - Ancient Messina (Finish).
PRE-START DISTANCE: 7 km. from the Great Lavra Monastery of Mikromani to Lampaina.
FINISH: Ancient Messina (Ithomi), at 800 m. positive elevation.
TOTAL ROUTE: 53.6 km. with 915 m. elevation difference.
