National Anniversary Programme for March 25th, 1821, in the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor

The Municipality of Pylos–Nestor will celebrate the anniversary of the Greek War of Independence of 1821 with great splendour, organising events across all Municipal Units for the celebration of March 25th.

General Programme

Monday, March 23rd, 2026
A general flag decoration of all public, municipal, and private buildings and residences will take place from 08:00 until sunset on March 25th.

Tuesday, March 24th, 2026
Illumination of all public, municipal, and community buildings, as well as public legal entities and banks, during the evening hours of March 24th and 25th.

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

Municipal Unit of Pylos

• 09:45 – Assembly of the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra at Three Admirals Square
• 09:55 – Raising of the Greek flag
• 10:05 – Arrival of schools and the Philharmonic at the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary
• 10:15 – Doxology
• 10:40 – Formation at Nestor Square, in front of the Town Hall and War Memorial

Followed by:

• Memorial service
• Wreath laying
• Keynote speech by Argyró Bakali (Principal of Pylos High School)
• One-minute silence
• National Anthem
• 11:15 – Parade of schools and the Philharmonic Orchestra
• Traditional dances at Three Admirals Square after the parade

Municipal Unit of Nestor (Chora)

• 07:30 – Church bells ring festively
• 10:15 – Doxology at the Church of Saint George

Followed by:

• Memorial service and wreath laying
• Speech by Anastasia Mouka (teacher)
• One-minute silence and National Anthem
• 11:15 – School parade in the central square
• 12:00 – Traditional dances by the Folklore Group of Chora

Municipal Unit of Koroni

• 07:00 – Orthros and Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Dimitrios
• 10:10 – Doxology

Followed by:

• Memorial service and wreath laying
• Speech by Lydia Skenderi (teacher)
• Student poems and songs
• One-minute silence and National Anthem
• 11:15 – School parade along the coastal road
• Traditional dances afterwards

Municipal Unit of Methoni

• 10:00 – Doxology at the Church of Saint Nicholas

Followed by:

• Ceremony at the Naval Battle Memorial
• Memorial service and wreath laying
• Speech by Dionysios Psallidas (school principal)
• Student poetry recitations
• One-minute silence and National Anthem
• 11:00 – Parade of schools and the Cultural Association of Methoni
• Traditional dances by students

Municipal Unit of Papaflessas (Vlachopoulo)
