Gialova Lagoon
The Gialova lagoon extends a breath away from the famous beach of Voidokilia, a protected wetland with rare flora and fauna. The birds it hosts vary every season since, apart from the permanent "residents", the occasional visitors to the lagoon are even more exotic.
Even if you might not consider yourself a nature lover, walking there may bring you up against the African chameleons hiding in the foliage or basking in the warm sand. It will be challenging to discern them since their capacity to change colour as they see fit makes them practically invisible.
If, on the other hand, you are a fall visitor, you will find yourself in front of an exotic surprise, as large populations of flamingos make their two-month stop in the waters of the lagoon in October. Take your binoculars or a camera with a big zoom and get ready for a National Geographic type of experience.
