Municipality of Pylos - Nestor
The Municipality of Pylos-Nestor was established with the "Kallicratis" Programme from the amalgamation of the pre-existing municipalities of Koroni, Methoni, Nestor, Papaflessas, Pylos and Chiliochoria. The area of the new Municipality is 554.3 sq. km, and its population amounts to approximately 21,370 inhabitants. The seat of the Municipality is Pylos, and the historical seat is Chora.
The area of Pylos-Nestor Municipality is attractive throughout the year with unique attractions, natural beauty and great history. The area’s anthropogenic activity has been proven through written testimonies, excavations, archaeological findings and monuments since antiquity. Of unique archaeological importance is Nestor’s Palace on Eglianos hill of Ano (Chora), and it is the best-preserved palace of the Mycenaean period (1700-1100 BC).
