EFKLIS-Ascent to Prophet Elias to Kalathi on Mount Taygetos

S.P.O.K. “Efklis” is organising a special evening hike to the chapel of Prophet Elias, on Kalathi Mountain, at the foothills of Mount Taygetos, near Kalamata, under the light of the full August moon, known as the “Sturgeon Moon.”
On Saturday, August 29th, 2026, the group will set off in the early evening for Kalathi, enjoying the spectacular scenery and the magical atmosphere created by the full moon.
This year’s full moon coincides with a partial lunar eclipse, making the celestial spectacle even more impressive. The August full moon will illuminate the night sky, offering unique views and an unforgettable experience in nature.
Information
- Hike difficulty: Grade A, easy
- Estimated duration: Approximately 3 hours for the ascent and descent, depending on the group
- Essential equipment: In addition to standard hiking equipment, participants must bring a headlamp
- Meeting point: 6:00 p.m. in front of AB Vassilopoulos Supermarket, at the corner of Psaron and Makedonias Streets, next to the club’s offices
- Transportation: Participants will travel by private cars to Ano Verga, with each group using its own vehicle
- Participation fee: €6 contribution to the club. Participants travelling in another person’s car will pay an additional €5 directly to the driver
