Kalamata Tech Expo & Intelligent Systems Festival

The Municipality of Kalamata is in the final stages of preparation for a major dual technology event titled “Kalamata Tech Expo & Intelligent Systems Festival”, scheduled to take place over three days, from May 8th to May 10th, 2026.

This ambitious initiative is the natural evolution of the successful Robotics Festivals, reinforcing the municipality’s strategic vision to establish the city as a hub of innovation and outward-looking development, within the framework of its participation in the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.

For the first time, the event combines two major components:

• The 1st Kalamata Technology Expo, hosted at the Kalamata Dance Megaron, where companies and university laboratories will showcase cutting-edge solutions and research projects.
• The 5th Robotics and Intelligent Systems Festival.

On Saturday, May 9th, the festival will unfold across two main locations:

• In the morning, at the Kalamata Spiritual Centre, activities will be held for young “scientists” up to 3rd grade, focusing on forest protection.
• In the afternoon, at Central Square of Kalamata, events will target older participants, with emphasis on intelligent systems for smart and climate-neutral cities.

The Municipality actively invests in the younger generation by offering free training seminars to participating teams and their educators, in collaboration with laboratories from the National Technical University of Athens and the University of the Peloponnese. Additionally, to foster creativity, teams have received subsidised technology kits including Arduino microcontrollers, sensors, and motors, enabling students to transform their ideas into functional robotic constructions.

The initiative, which has already been honoured with a Gold Award at the Best City Awards 2023, delivers significant social and economic benefits. It strengthens participants’ confidence, promotes values such as collaboration and volunteerism, and enhances Kalamata’s profile as a modern tourist and educational destination both nationally and internationally.

By building strong connections between the public and private sectors, the event aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and actively contribute to shaping a technologically advanced and sustainable society.
