“Philoctetes” by Sophocles

Spread the word

Giorgos Kimoulis, Dimitris Gotsopoulos and Thodoris Katsafados, produced by Christos Tripodis' Methexis company and in collaboration with the Agrinio Municipal Theatre, present Sophocles' tragedy PHILOCTETES throughout Greece and Cyprus during the summer season.
In Philoctetes, Sophocles dramatises a fraud, which is organised by Odysseus and undertaken to be carried out by Neoptolemus, the young son of Achilles. The two men arrive at the uninhabited Lemnos, at the edge, at the end of the world, where the Achaeans had abandoned Philoctetes for ten years, wounded by an incurable wound. Their mission is to steal Philoctetes' famous bow, because without it, the fall of Troy is impossible.
