Kalamata Open Air Theatre

Kalamata recently added a major cultural asset to its cultural map: the new Open Theatre, a modern space that promises to host unique artistic experiences and give new impetus to the region's creative life.
The theatre, with a capacity of 2,175 seats, was designed with functionality, accessibility and aesthetic excellence in mind. The stage is surrounded by modern infrastructure, such as dressing rooms, a sound and lighting system, sanitary facilities (with provision for people with disabilities), and a pleasant surrounding area with a garden, which makes it ideal for summer cultural events.
Its architectural style harmonises with the natural landscape, as its design was based on functioning as an entrance to the future environmental park of Nedontas. The project architect, Nikos Giannakopoulos, was inspired by the wickerwork of the area to give colour and shape to the construction, naturally integrating it into the urban and ecological environment.
The theatre's official operation began in the fall of 2024 with a series of high-level concerts, hosting artists such as Marina Satti, Giannis Kotsiras and Natassa Bofiliou. The climax came on September 27th with Stavros Xarhakos' grand concert, also serving as the space's inauguration ceremony.
The new Kalamata Open Theatre is an optimistic investment in the city's cultural future, strengthening tourism and social life.
