Creative Documentary Centre-Murky Depths
Spread the word
The Kalamata Creative Documentary Centre invites you to a screening of the award-winning fiction film “Murky Depths” by Eleni Alexandraki, based on the autobiographical work of Giannis Atzakas.
A powerful story about the “Child Cities” of Queen Frederica, the turmoil of the Greek Civil War, and the loss of identity through the eyes of a child.
The film, produced in 2024, is a free adaptation of the books “Folded Wings” and “Murky Depths” by Giannis Atzakas (Agra Publications). It is a deeply human and historically significant narrative focusing on Giannis, the son of a partisan fighter, who in 1949 is placed in Queen Frederica’s Child Cities. There, through six years of confinement and Cold War propaganda, the child confronts ideological manipulation and fear of his own origins.
