The very successful performance "Our Blessings Here" with Stavroula Bardounioti returns to the Orchestra—Cultural Space in Ancient Messina for one performance only, renewed after nine years.
The performance is a monologue based on the homonymous book by Giorgis Papazoglou, "Our Blessings Here: Dreams of Unburned and Burnt Smyrna"
The author's mother, Angela Papazoglou, a Smyrna singer and wife of rebetiko singer Vangelis Papazoglou, narrates her life in a folk musical language.
A moving oral testimony with memories from Smyrna, its liberation and destruction, the uprooting of the Greeks and their subsequent difficult years in Greece as refugees.
The disturbing relevance of Angela's words nowadays reminds us that forgetting is a sin. As she herself said… "Don't forget… If you forget what you've been through, they'll do it worse again..."
