The small village of Mila is located 6 km west of Meligalas and 36 km from Kalamata. It is built at an altitude of 300 meters and has been known by this name since 1690. Various findings, including Poseidon's temple, confirm that Mila has been inhabited since the Mycenaean period.
During the Turkish occupation, here was the settlement of Rama or Ramovouni, where Theodoros Kolokotronis was born, on April 3rd, 1770. At the point where, according to tradition, he was born (under an oak), an imposing equestrian statue of the Elder of Moria was placed in 2007. A few meters from the monument, the visitor can see the small church of Vrachopanagitsa, from the foundations of which there is water gushing from a spring.
At a distance of 2-3 km, northeast of the village, is the Castle of Mila, near the current settlement of Kastro. Mila Castle is kept in relatively good condition and the view from the spot is breathtaking.
