The semi-mountainous village of Choreftra is located near the village of Aristomenis and has about 60 permanent residents. It is built at an altitude of 414 meters and is 25 kilometres from Messinia. The village is famous for its gurgling waters. The area of the village has a history that follows the history of Messinia. In ancient times, the settlement area was part of Nestor’s kingdom, the king of ancient Pylos.
Some of the inhabitants come from Arkadian cattle breeders, known as "anevokatevates (the ones that go up and down)". This name was given to the shepherds because, in the spring, they went up with their herds to the mountains of Arcadia, while in winter, they went down to the (winter) shelters of Messinia.
Here, the visitor can wander in the stone-built alleys with the traditional houses and see the temple of the Assumption of the Savior Christ, as well as the chapel of Prophet Eliah. Finally, every year, on July 20th (on the celebration of Ai-Lios (Eliah)), the Cultural Association of Aristomenites-Dancers, "Aristomenis", holds a festival with a traditional feast that until the morning hours.
