Limarisi Square - Venetian Well
At the entrance of the city, on the NE side, there is the so called Limarisi square, on which there is a well of the era of the Venetian domination, which has been classified as a preservable monument (Government Gazette 239 / 30-9-1964).
The well was used for water supply until the water supply system was installed and on the inner side of its mouth there are still the sharp corrugations from the bucket ropes that were used to collect the water.
In 1979 the square was cemented but - unknown why - the mouth of the well was not demolished, but it remained and protruded the floor of the square. So it had better luck than the LEONI well and in 2003, when the redevelopment of the square was over, the well returned to its original condition and has become the gem of the area.
The adjacent small bridge over the river was built in 1936.
