With due splendour and formality, the Municipality of Oichalia is preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821. The Mayor, Panagiota Georgakopoulou, invites citizens to participate in the events that will take place across all Municipal Units, honouring the heroes of the Nation.
General Celebration
From 08:00 on March 23rd, a general flag decoration of public and private buildings will begin. During the evenings of March 24th and 25th, streets and squares throughout the Municipality will be illuminated.
Meligalas (Municipal Seat)
The events begin on Tuesday, March 24, at 19:00 with the traditional torchlight procession starting from the Central Square.
On March 25th:
- 10:00 – Doxology at the Church of Saint John
- 10:15 – Memorial service at the War Memorial, wreath laying, and keynote speech by educator Lelouda-Lilian Karava
- 11:00 – Parade accompanied by the Municipal Philharmonic, followed by traditional dances by the Meligalas Dance Association
Municipal Unit of Dorio
- 09:30 – Doxology at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen
- 10:15 – Parade along the main street, wreath laying, and keynote speech by Dimitra Chantzi, Head of Dorio Gymnasium
The ceremony concludes with traditional dances by the Dorio Women’s Association
Municipal Unit of Andania (Diavolitsi)
- 09:30 – Doxology at the Church of Saint Panteleimon
- 10:00 – Keynote speech by educator Anastasios Papadopoulos and wreath laying
- 10:15 – Student parade through the streets of Diavolitsi
Municipal Unit of Oichalia (Meropi)
- 09:30 – Doxology at the Church of Saint Dimitrios
- 09:40 – Keynote speech by educator Konstantinos Papaemmanouil
- 10:00 – Start of the student parade in Meropi
All events across the Municipality will conclude at 18:00 with the official lowering of the flag.
