"The Tambouras of Makrygiannis": A Historical Literary Evening in Kalamata

The Municipal Community of Kalamata is organising a special literary event dedicated to history and tradition, on the occasion of the presentation of Giannis Plemmenos’ book, The Tambouras of Makrygiannis.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, at 19:00, at the Municipal Cultural Centre of Kalamata – Regina Hall.
The presentation will be supported by a panel of distinguished academics and literary figures:

Giorgos Andreiomenos, Professor and Dean of the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of the Peloponnese

- Katerina Bregianni, Research Director at the Centre for Research of Modern Greek History of the Academy of Athens
- Maria Stathea, Philologist and member of the Messenian Writers Association
- Kostas Papadopoulos, Publisher, Director of “Taxideftis” Editions
- Georgia Psaradellis, Music teacher at the Kalamata Music School
- Giannis Plemmenos, Research Director at the Centre for Research of Greek Folklore of the Academy of Athens and author of the book
The discussion will be moderated by journalist Maria Tomara.
The evening will also feature a strong musical element, with the participation of the Traditional Music Ensemble of the Kalamata Music School, connecting the spoken word with the traditional sounds explored in the book.
