Hildy Johnson, one of Chicago’s most talented reporters, has decided to leave journalism—and her ex-husband, Walter Burns—behind in order to start a new life with a mild-mannered insurance salesman. But Walter, a newspaper editor and an incorrigible manipulator, has no intention of letting her go. When a major death-row case erupts just hours before Hildy’s wedding, she finds herself drawn back into the heart of the newsroom. Amid endless phone calls, political intrigue, and rapid-fire exchanges, Hildy must make a choice: the security of a quiet life or the chaotic world she knows best.

His Girl Friday is widely regarded as one of the greatest screwball comedies ever made and one of the finest examples of Howard Hawks’ wit, pace, and directorial brilliance. Adapted from the stage play The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, the film gained a fresh dynamic by transforming one of the original male lead roles into a female character.
