Mykonos in a different way: Screening of the documentary "Super Paradise"

Spread the word

The Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata and the 27th International Peloponnese Documentary Festival continue their cinematic journeys in the city, as part of the "Destination Journey" action.
On Monday, June 30th, at sunset, Doc Cafe will open its doors for a special screening of Steve Krikris's award-winning documentary Super Paradise.
A deep dive into the myth of Mykonos:
"Super Paradise" is not just a documentary about an island, but an in-depth exploration of the radical changes that Mykonos has experienced over the last 50-70 years. From a once unknown and affordable destination, a symbol of freedom and social inclusion, it gradually transformed into an extremely expensive, global attraction, synonymous with mass tourism and, at times, social exclusion.
Director Steve Krikris, who has been personally connected to the island since the 1970s, guides us through this transformation. Through researched archival material (including rare Super 8 footage and unpublished archives), drone and mobile phone filming, and exclusive interviews with residents and Mykonos figures, the film creates a "multi-colored mosaic."
The documentary functions as an observational essay that brings to the surface the decline of a remnant from the "cradle of civilisation," where heritage meets decadence, ancient liberties collide with modern patriarchy and postmodern ethics. The film is not afraid to touch on the darker aspects of "paradise," such as the drug boom and the losses experienced by the locals, as they admit.
"Super Paradise" is a universal story about the impact of mass tourism on every place. It presents an island community confronted with its own identity. The film has been successfully screened at the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival and the Evia Film Project, receiving positive comments for its honesty and artistic integrity.
