Kalamata Creative Documentary Centre-Kaiti Drosou: Memory Box
Spread the word

The Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata invites you to its regular Monday screening at Doc Cafe on Monday, July 14th, at sunset. In the context of the collaboration with the "Destination Journey" Action of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, the moving documentary "Kaiti Drosou: Box of Memory" (72'), directed by Athanasia Drakopoulou, will be screened.
The film introduces us to the world of Kaiti Drossou (1917-2017), an emblematic figure of the Greek Left, philologist, translator, activist and 37-year companion of great actor Manos Katrakis. Kaiti Drossou's life has been a living chronicle of modern Greek history.
"Memory Box" is not a random title: it literally refers to Kaiti Drossou's archive, a box that contained thousands of documents, letters, photographs and personal items, accumulated during her hundred-year life. Through this rich material, the film unfolds her journey, from the interwar period, the Occupation and the Civil War, her 16 years of political exile in countries such as Russia, Poland, Romania and East Germany, to the Post-Soviet period and beyond.
Athanasia Drakopoulou composes a documentary that is not simply a biography, but a deep exploration of memory, political struggle, personal sacrifices and how people's lives are intertwined with the flow of history. A film that offers valuable insights into how critical moments of the 20th century were experienced in Greece through the perspective of a woman who was both a protagonist and a silent witness.
