Kalamata Creative Documentary Centre-La herencia de Flora
Spread the word

The Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata, in an essential collaboration with the FECHA Festival (Festival de Cine Latinoamericano en Grecia) and with the valuable support of the Embassy of Peru in Greece, is organising a special film evening on Friday, July 4th.
Kalamata's audience is invited to Doc Cafe for the screening of the Peruvian biographical historical film "La herencia de Flora" (The Heritage of Flora), directed and written by the acclaimed Augusto Tamayo San Román. The screening will begin at sunset, offering a magical atmosphere under the summer sky.
The Legacy of a Pioneer:
"La herencia de Flora" (Peru, 2024, 114') brings to life the story of Flora Tristán, a significant but often overlooked figure of the 19th century and grandmother of the famous painter Paul Gauguin. The film, based on the story of Jimena Ortiz de Zevallos, takes us to 1833, when the courageous Flora leaves France and travels to distant Peru for her paternal heritage.
There, faced with the betrayal of her uncle, Pío Tristán (played by Diego Berti in his last film role), she encounters harsh social inequalities, the brutality of slavery and the voices of the marginalised. These experiences profoundly shape her worldview. Returning to France, Flora becomes a dynamic writer and activist, dedicating her life to defending the rights of workers and women, becoming one of the first feminists and socialist thinkers.
The film does not fail to explore Flora's personal life, including various love affairs, such as the one with the Polish aristocrat Olympa Chodzko, highlighting her complexity and passion. Ultimately, Flora Tristan's life is dedicated entirely to her social struggle, making her a visionary who fought for equality and justice. Paloma Gerovi interprets the central role convincingly, giving flesh and blood to such an important historical figure.
