"Biko and his orchestra" at Doc Cafe

Spread the word

The Creative Documentary Centre of Kalamata invites you to a special evening to mark the musical "farewell" to Doc Cafe's summer screenings. On Wednesday, July 30th, at sunset, the documentary "Biko & His Balkan Orchestra" will be screened, directed by Anna Antonopoulou and George Spyridis. The appointment is renewed for September.
The film comes from the "Destination Journey" Action of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival. It takes us on a journey through the colourful world of Balkan music, following Biko Agusevi, the charismatic conductor, saxophonist and clarinettist from Strumica, North Macedonia, and his 12-member orchestra, Biko Sax Agusevi. For the past 15 years, Biko has said goodbye to his family during every Carnival. Along with his band, they all travel to Naoussa to flood the city with the sounds of the brass instruments and their unique, fast melodies, contributing to the carnival festivities.
The documentary by Anna Antonopoulou and George Spyridis records the band's journey from Strumitsa to Naoussa, capturing moments from their daily lives, their rehearsals and the close bonds of friendship they have developed with the residents of Naoussa and Kastoria (Ragoutsaria). It is an anthropocentric observational documentary, which, beyond the music, focuses on human relationships, the simple life of musicians and the powerful language of Balkan music that unites people, overcoming borders and political differences.
Come and say goodbye to the summer with the dynamic rhythms and moving stories of "Bikos", in an evening that promises to fill us with joy, music and the optimism that art is the strongest bridge between people.
