This route highlights the historical reality of the collaboration between Nikos Kazantzakis and the real-life Georgis Zorbas during their joint work in lignite mining in the Prastova area of the Messenian Mani.
The two men lived in Stoupa, by the idyllic seaside of Kalogria Beach, during the years 1917-1918. There, they not only shared business ventures but also developed a deep friendship that profoundly influenced Kazantzakis and later inspired the legendary protagonist of the novel Zorba the Greek.
The route restores the historical truth, clarifying that these experiences did not take place in Crete, as many people believe, but here, in the Mani region.
