EFKLIS-Biliovo Path in Messenia
Spread the word
On Sunday, January 7, 2024, the team of the "Efklis" association will hike one of the most famous and beautiful hiking routes in Messenia, the famous Biliovo, the cobblestone path that connects the villages of Sotirianika (300 m. altitude) and Altomira (800 m. ) in Messenian Mani, which was recently designated a Monument.
The part of the cobblestone that survives today is 3 kilometres long and has 83 bends (78 of which are 180 degrees). The construction of the Biliovo path began in 1904 and is considered an achievement of folk architecture. Many of its bends are built on steep terrain, while artisans and stone workers from the neighbouring villages worked to create the path. Based on an inscription carved on a stone, it is estimated that Biliovo was finished in 1928.
