The Magic of Books, Storytelling and Play Comes to Life at the 1st Festival for Very Young Readers, "AKATA MAKATA SOUKOUTOUMBE".
The magic of books, storytelling and play comes together with imagination at the 1st Festival for Very Young Readers, "AKATA MAKATA SOUKOUTOUMBE," taking place on Friday, July 17th, and Saturday, July 18th, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at Vlachernas Park in Filiatra, Greece.
This unique celebration is dedicated to children and their families, aiming to foster a love of books and reading through creative, hands-on experiences. Book readings, storytelling sessions, interactive workshops, music and theatrical performances come together in a two-day festival filled with imagination, play and creativity.
The programme begins on both days with "Reading Picnics," where children and adults alike will enjoy simultaneous book readings in the beautiful natural surroundings of the park.
On Friday, July 17th, the festival opens with parallel reading sessions, followed by two interactive activities presented by author and illustrator Myrto Delivoria, inspired by her books and inviting children on a playful journey through stories and imagination. The evening concludes with the Magic Tolto comedy magic show, promising laughter and spectacular illusions for audiences of all ages.
On Saturday, July 18th, following the reading sessions, young visitors will take part in "Alphabet Binders," an interactive workshop led by Magda Soulioti. Children will enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition and create their own bookmarks using a hands-on, improvised printing press. Afterwards, Christina Dimiza will bring traditional Greek folktales to life through storytelling and folk songs. The festival will close with "For Little and Big Ears," a family concert by Dinos Fildisis, offering a joyful musical experience for children and adults alike.
The festival's Artistic Director and General Coordinator is Garyfallia Terizaki, while Vivi Pandelaki collaborates on the festival's design and implementation.
"AKATA MAKATA SOUKOUTOUMBE" aspires to become a new annual cultural event for the region, creating a welcoming space where children can discover the joy of reading, nurture their imagination and share meaningful experiences with their families and friends.
